Manage your cloud server
You can manage your Acenet cloud server (virtual server) from the Client Area: turn it on and off, restart it, open a console, reset the root password, change the hostname, start rescue mode or reinstall the operating system.
Open your server's page
1. Log in to the Client Area.
2. Click Services, then My Services.
3. Click your cloud server. Its Manage Product page opens.
The page shows the server's status (for example Started), the control buttons, and graphs of CPU, network, disk and memory usage. Further down you'll find the package, billing cycle, IP address, next due date and total traffic.
Power controls
- Start turns the server on.
- Stop turns the server off. Use it only if the server doesn't respond, because it's like unplugging the power. To shut down normally, log in to the server and shut it down from the operating system.
- Restart restarts the server, for example after an update or if it stops responding.
Other actions
- VNC Access opens a console to the server's screen in your browser. It works even when the network or SSH isn't working, so it's the way in if you've locked yourself out, for example with a firewall rule.
- Reset Root Password sets a new password for the server's root (administrator) user.
- Change Hostname changes the server's hostname, for example to server.example.com.
- Rescue starts the server from a separate rescue system, so you can repair the installed system, for example to fix a configuration error that stops it from starting or to copy your files off. Start the server normally again when you're done.
- Reinstall installs a fresh copy of the operating system you choose. This permanently erases everything on the server, including websites, email, databases and settings. Make sure you have a backup first.
These actions take effect straight away on your real server, so make sure you've chosen the right server before clicking.
Need help?
If a button doesn't do what you expect, or your server won't start, please open a support ticket in the Technical Support department and select the server under Related Service.
If you'd like to cancel the server, use Request Cancellation in the Actions menu on the left. See Cancel a service.
