Our cPanel servers protect your hosting account in two ways:

  • Imunify360 runs on every server. It blocks many attacks before they reach your website, and automatically scans your files for malware. If it finds something, you can see it in cPanel. See Imunify360 website protection.
  • Virus Scanner is cPanel's built-in scanner. You can run it yourself at any time, for your website files or your email.

Check Imunify360

1. Log in to cPanel. See Log in to cPanel and WHM from the Client Area.

2. In the Security section, click Imunify360.

3. Review any infected files it lists. Depending on your server's settings, Imunify360 may have already cleaned or quarantined them.

Run a scan with Virus Scanner

1. Log in to cPanel.

2. In the Advanced section, click Virus Scanner.

3. Choose what to scan, for example your Public Web Space (your website files) or Email, and click Scan Now.

4. When the scan finishes, choose what to do with any infected files: Quarantine, Destroy or Ignore.

If your website was hacked

Removing infected files fixes the symptoms, but not how the attacker got in. Also:

  • Update your website software, such as WordPress, and all its plugins and themes. Remove any you don't use.
  • Change your cPanel, FTP, database and website admin passwords.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication for cPanel and the Client Area. See Secure your Client Area account.
  • If you need help, please open a support ticket in the Technical Support department.
