Before assigning a dedicated IP to an account, you will want to be aware  that a dedicated IP assignment may result in the site(s) associated  with the account to appear down for several hours while the new IP  propagates. We suggest to schedule dedicated IP assignments for the  account's non-peak hours because of this.

Also, if any of the sites associated with the account you're going to assign a dedicated IP to are using 3rd party DNS that does not sync with your server's DNS, they will need to have their DNS zones modified to reflect the new IP you're going to assign after you have assigned the dedicated IP. If you're not sure how the sites are having their DNS handled, you will want to consult with your server's administrator.

A dedicated IP address gives one account its own IP address instead of sharing the server's main IP address. See Why should I have a dedicated IP for reasons you might want one.

You don't need a dedicated IP address for SSL. Free AutoSSL certificates work on shared IP addresses.

Reseller hosting

Order a dedicated IP address (see Account Upgrades), then open a support ticket in the Technical Support department and tell us which account to assign it to.

Your own server (cloud or dedicated)

Step 1: Add the IP address to your server

To get an additional IP address for your server, see Account Upgrades, or open a ticket in the Sales and Billing department.

Once we've assigned the IP address to your server, check that it's listed in WHM under IP Functions > Show or Delete Current IP Addresses. If it isn't, add it with IP Functions > Add a New IP Address, using the subnet mask we gave you.

Step 2: Assign it to an account

Before you start, note that visitors may keep reaching the old IP address for a few hours, until DNS caches update. To shorten this, lower the time to live (TTL) of the domain's DNS records a day ahead.

1. Log in to WHM as root and go to Account Functions > Change Site's IP Address.

2. Select the account and click Change.

3. Choose the new IP address from the menu, then click Change.

WHM updates the account's DNS zone on your server. If the domain's DNS is hosted somewhere else, such as Cloudflare, also change its A records there.

For details, see cPanel's Change Site's IP Address documentation.
