How can I change my local machine's DNS servers

How to change your local machine's DNS servers depends on what OS (Operating System) you're running. There are instructions below on how to change the DNS servers for various operating systems.

Windows 7

[1] Click the Start button.

[2] Click 'Control Panel'.

[3] In the top right 'Search Control Panel' text field, type adapter.

[4] Under 'Network and Sharing Center' click 'View network connections'.

[5] Right click on the connection you're wanting to change the DNS servers for and then click 'Properties'.

[6] Click 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)'.

[7] Click the 'Properties' button.

[8] Click 'Use the following DNS server addresses'.

[9] Specify the DNS servers you're wanting to use in the 'Preferred DNS server' and 'Alternate DNS server' fields. Acenet suggests using Google's DNS servers (which are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

[10] Click the 'OK' button.

Windows Vista

[1] Click the Start button.
