Acenet's Recommended Hardware Configuration

Our recommended hardware configuration depends on the type of Dedicated Server you are wanting to purchase.

Enterprise Dedicated Servers

The recommended hardware configuration for our Enterprise Dedicated Servers is three hard drives with a RAID controller and a BBU. Two of these hard drives will be setup in a hardware RAID 1 array, while the third hard drive will be used for backups.

The RAID 1 array is used to mirror the data which will allow both hard drives to contain the same exact data. This is very helpful guarding against data loss due to drive failure. If a drive does fail, the second hard drive will kick in and continue where the failed drive left off at. Because Acenet uses hot swap bays, having your hard drives set up in a RAID 1 array will also allow us to replace a failed hard drive without any downtime.

The third hard drive, which is used for backups, is your fail safe. If both hard drives happen to fail at the same time (which is extremely rare but can feasibly happen) or your server's file system gets corrupted, you will have backups to restore your server's content from.

Budget Boxes

The recommended hardware configuration for our Budget Boxes is two hard drives. One hard drive is to be used as your primary hard drive. The second hard drive will be used for backups.

The reason as to why you cannot have the same setup as the Enterprise Dedicated Servers is because our Budget Boxes can only hold two hard drives.

If you wanted a RAID array and a backup, this is possible. You would use both hard drives for the RAID array, and purchase a separate Managed CDP Enterprise Backup plan.
