What is email spoofing?

Email spoofing is when a sender of an email, generally a spammer, changes the "From" and "Reply To" so that it shows a different email address other than their own.
This makes the email appear to have come from a legitimate email address, which is the not spammer's own email address.
A spoofed email is not sent from the legitimate email address' server.
It is sent from the spammers email server.

What can be done to stop email spoofing?

Stopping someone from spoofing can only be done on the sending server end.
Acenet has configured our email servers so that an email sent from our server requires the sender and the from address to be the same.
This means that an email address cannot be spoofed using Acenet's servers.
However, this does not stop someone on a NON-Acenet server from spoofing emails.

There are some things that you can do to help keep your email address from being spoofed.
1. Do not post your email address online in blogs or posts.
2. If you do need to post your email address online, use the word (at) instead of @ and use (dot)com instead of .com
For instance: sample(at)example(dot)com
3. Set up a different email address to use for mailing lists, giveaways, contests, etc.
Creating a gmail, yahoo, or hotmail account is easy and a perfect use for these types of things.
4. Use your main email address for interacting with business associates, family, and people you know.

But my emails are being marked as spam.

Since the email looks like it is coming from your email address, your email address could be listed as a sender of spam. To help prevent this, you can setup SPF and DKIM for your domain.
GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and AOL all use a combination of SPF, DKIM, and other methods to help validate the sender of a particular mail message. Enabling these methods will help validate the sender and will help your mail be delivered successfully.
